New Year's Projects

It's at this time of year that thoughts turn to the coming year. One of my plans is to map a GPS route from Land's End to John o' Groats on the National Cycle Network and then ride it (or part of it) in 2007.

The National Cycle Network is an amazing resource and it's great if you know where it goes. However, it is often poorly sign-posted which makes it frustrating to use for the casual user. I want to make GPS files available online so that GPS users can download them.

Work has started (see pictures) but it's got quite complicated!

I will be looking for co-riders so watch this space!

The penny has dropped

I've been a bit slow to wake up to the climate change thing. But I have started to be shocked by the implications. These two pictures were part of what did it for me. One picture was taken in Sept 1979 the other in Sept 2004.

Did you know that if you have £10 to spare, you are much better off buying a low energy light bulb than putting the money in the Bank? Spreadsheet available on request! Please comment below. . .

 

The LEJOG bike

The Race to Hamilton

The video below was taken as Luke and I raced towards Hamilton so that he could get a train back to work. We had riden 250 miles together.

This was Stage 10 of the LEJOG ride and at this point we had got separated. I was on the cycle lane and Luke was on the road. The wind was against us. The dialogue goes something like this: "Hi Luke. We should stick together in this wind. Let's join up at the end of this."
